Pre-placement, DOT & Non-DOT physicals
Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examinations are conducted by licensed medical examiners. DOT physical exams are valid for up to 24 months. The medical examiner may also issue a medical examiner’s certificate for less than 24 months when it is desirable to monitor a condition, such as high blood pressure.
The purpose of the DOT Medical Examination is to determine that the driver has no condition that would interfere with the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
DRUG SCREENING
A drug test is a technical analysis of a biological specimen – for example urine, hair, blood, sweat, or oral fluid / saliva – to determine the presence or absence of specified parent drugs or their metabolites.
(24 hour on-call drug screening & BAT available). We are DATIA certified.
Breath Alcohol Testing
Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) determines how much alcohol is in your blood by measuring the amount of alcohol in the air you breathe out (exhale).
(24 hour on-call drug screening & BAT available). We are DATIA certified.
Spirometry
Spirometry is the measurement of air flow into and out of the lungs. Spirometry requires that the nose is pinched off as the patient breathes through a mouthpiece attached to the spirometer. The patient is instructed on how to breathe during the procedure. Three breathing maneuvers are practiced before recording the procedure, and the highest of three trials is used for evaluation of breathing.
Respirator Fit Testing
Respirators protect workers against designated hazards. However, an important fact about respirators is this–one size does not fit all. A fit test should be performed on any worker using a respirator, and the employee should only use the respirator on which the test was conducted. OSHA Standards 29 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) 1910.134 covers the requirements for respirator fit testing.
Hearing Screening
On your first visit to an audiologist, he or she will start by asking you questions about your medical and hearing history. This is called the case history. Next, the audiologist will look into your ears using a light, called an otoscope, and check for anything in the ear canal that might affect the test results or require referral to your doctor. Finally, the audiologist will conduct a pure tone test to assess, whether there is a hearing loss.
A pure tone hearing test determines the faintest tones a person can hear at selected pitches (frequencies), from low to high. During this test, earphones are worn so that information can be obtained for each ear.
Impairment Rating Evaluation
An IR (sometimes called a physical impairment rating) is a medical assessment of a claimant’s injury represented by a percentage value. A physician may assign an IR to the body as a whole or to a specific body part. The rating may then be used to calculate the workers’ comp benefits owed to a claimant. Impairment ratings are particularly important in determining permanent partial disability benefits.
FCE’s (Functional Capacity Evaluation)
Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a series of tests measuring physical strength, range of motion, stamina, and tolerance to functional activities, including lifting and carrying. These tests can be used to evaluate work tolerance, and the necessity for work restrictions.
During a FCE, the person being tested might be asked to complete a series of tasks including but not limited to:
- Box lift
- Reaching up/ out/ over/ down
- Treadmill/Cardiovascular test (i.e.- Naughton Treadmill test)
- Walking for periods of time
- Squatting
- Stair Climbing
- Step Test
- Ladder climbing
- Computerized Range of Motion Test
- Computerized Muscle Testing
- Niosh Lifting Test
- Sitting Tolerance
- Bending up/ out/ over/ down
- Work Simulation (specific to persons work duty)
It is suggested to wear comfortable clothing and shoes when preparing to do a FCE. Please notify the Doctor/ Therapist of all medications you are taking or any disabilities that might prevent you from completing sections of the test.
